Dear LA Janes,
They say April showers bring May flowers and after an enduring season of constant disasters, challenges, and growth, we’re thrilled to share This is Jane Project® is officially able to do business again in the State of California.
My name is Ronni Eloff, Chief Information and Tech officer for This is Jane Project. I’m honored to step in as Acting Executive Director while Shannon is on an extended leave of absence due to the Palisades fires, in addition to other personal issues.
I’m writing this letter, alongside Parker Jesse Chase, whom many of you know as a longtime volunteer and producer within our organization.
Throughout our time together, we at This is Jane Project® have been pioneers in the cannabis industry, as we set out towards cultivating friendships and forging unconventional pathways to heal from our traumas through compassionate cannabis care, starting in Los Angeles and expanding across the country. Our mission is dedicated to shedding light, providing community, and uplifting the lives of women and non-binary trauma survivors. We have always been open to creating spaces for real conversations, to sit with the hard truths, and to hold space for growth, healing, and community.
In full transparency, we want to share that during September of last year, we were marked non-compliant by the California Attorney General’s Office due to issues related to required filings under the Solicitation of Charitable Funds Act. Compliance for nonprofits is not just about following regulations, it’s about protecting the integrity of our mission, ensuring we can continue to sustain our work without continued legal or financial risks.
When faced with these challenges, we took immediate action: We acknowledged our missteps and took accountability. We assessed and reorganized our systems, board members stepped down, and set out to correct our filing issues. Most importantly, we worked closely with the state to bring everything back into compliance.
On March 10th 2025, we received official notice This is Jane Project® is once again in good standing and can legally fundraise and operate within the state of California. This allows us to relaunch our LASWA programming and, most importantly, serve our community here where it all began.
We are thrilled to announce our official Los Angeles Survivors Without Access (SWA) event on
Saturday, May 24th, 2025 | 11 AM – 1 PM at our beloved partner space, Guerrilla Rx Dispensary in Crenshaw (now newly renovated for better accessibility)!
Registration opens Thursday, May 22nd.
While we had originally envisioned a larger celebration, it’s become clear to us this might not be what our community needs right now. Our first event will focus on getting back into the routine, giving us a chance to come gather, reconnect, and rebuild the relationships that are the foundation of our work.
We are mindful many of you have felt the distance during this season. We hear you, we see you, and we are working every day to rebuild a stronger, more sustainable LASWA than before.
What to Expect on May 24th:
Registration will be limited to 25 Janes this event and alas, smaller compassion bag content, as we are rebuilding our connections to brands and get brands to commit to donating.
We are offering time to simply be together within our community without outside pressures or distractions.
We will be sending out a survey next week, giving all LA Janes the opportunity to share feedback and shape the next phase of LA SWA , bag content, and Community Events to help shape how events rollout in the future.
We are actively working to secure partnerships to support at least four more SWA events in Los Angeles in 2025 for 100 Janes and six in 2026.
Your voices will directly inform how we cultivate brand relationships and advocate for the resources that serve your healing journeys.
Getting the wheel running again takes time, patience, and the collective power of this beautiful community. We are committed to rebuilding the bridge between cannabis, trauma-informed care, and healing together. Thank you for your grace, understanding, and continued unwavering spirit.
While I can’t be there in person, as I live in Ohio, Parker, Rei, will there for check-in.
We can’t wait to gather with you Janes again on May 24th.
In Healing,
This is Jane Project® Team
